Ingredients
125 ml (1/2 cup) mayonnaise
10 ml (2 tsp.) Sriracha sauce
10 ml (2 tsp.) maple syrup
500 g (1 block) Soykei firm tofu, well drained
250 ml (1 cup) Panko breadcrumbs
30 ml (2 tbsp.) nutritional yeast
15 ml (1 tbsp.) chili powder
5 ml (1 tsp.) garlic powder
5 ml (1 tsp.) onion powder
5 ml (1 tsp.) hot smoked paprika
1.25 ml (1/4 tsp.) garlic salt
125 ml (1/2 cup) plain plant-based beverage of your choice
175 ml (3/4 cup) unbleached white flour
60 ml (1/4 cup) canola or olive oil
Preparation
- In a bowl, combine mayonnaise, Sriracha sauce, and maple syrup. Set aside.
- Using your hands, break the tofu into 2.5 cm pieces. Set aside.
- Mix the breadcrumbs, yeast, seasonings, and salt in a bowl. Pour the plant-based beverage into a 2nd bowl and put the flour in a 3rd bowl.
- Dip the tofu in the flour first, then the beverage, and finish with the breadcrumb mixture. Repeat the operation a 2nd time. This double coating will give your nuggets a nice crispy texture.
- Heat the oil in a large non-stick frying pan over medium-high heat. Cook half the nuggets for 1 minute, turn over and continue cooking for 45 seconds or until golden brown. Put the nugget on a paper-towel-covered plate. Cook the remaining nuggets.
- Serve immediately with the spicy mayonnaise.
